THE MIMIC OCTOPUS

mimic octopus: Thaumoctopus mimicus

This octopus can be a sea snake, a lion fish, or a sole/flatfish. Its name is Thaumoctopus mimicus, or the mimic octopus. The mimic octopus uses its camouflage and contorts its body into different shapes, thus appearing as a much scarier, venomous animal. Despite living in shallow waters and exposing itself in broad daylight, this species seems to thrive due to its amazing mimicking abilities. It is found around Malaysia and Indonesia. Their main food source, given their habitat, is most likely crustaceans and fish. This octopus grows up to around 2 feet in length. Sadly, these incredible creatures will most likely only survive 9 months.
