THE OWL EYED BUTTERFLY

One of my favorite butterflies has always been Caligo memnon, or the owl butterfly. I was intrigued by how intricate the design of an owl butterfly’s wing is. These amazing creatures are equipped with a startling likeness of an owl eye on the underside of each wing. They inhabit the Americas and live in tropical forests or cultivated land, feeding on the juices of rotting fruit and plant nectar. These butterflies are nocturnal, so can only be seen flying during the evening or early morning. Their total life span is a little over 4 months.
